Over Memorial Day weekend I traveled to Georgia with Tammi and Bill to visit with Debbie and her family and celebrate Tammi’s birthday a month early. While there we did some kayaking for two hours. Even though I’m exercising more regularly, I must not be exercising the muscles you use for paddling a kayak. Those muscles were sore for a couple of days. Otherwise, I’m feeling quite well.
While in Ohio I will be speaking at Chardon Christian Fellowship on July the 7th and possibly at another church on June 30. I will be sharing with the staff at FCC and meeting with others related our radio ministry. Hopefully I will get to see many of you while there.
Just before I leave for Ohio, I will be leading another Vesper service in my community on the 23rd. If you haven’t seen the new look of our website, www.gettinggodsmessage.org, check it out. Starting back on May 7 I have been doing a study of the book of Jonah. You can listen to the programs or read the scripts on the website.
With all that is going on in our world these days let’s be faithful in praying for each other, for those around us, and for all that are suffering around the world. Then let’s keep our eyes open for opportunities to let our light and love shine forth to encourage others in our sphere of influence.
Last month’s Serendipitous Encounter ended with Mur humbly acknowledging, “I won’t get any jewels in my crown. I had a hard time agreeing in my heart to forgo getting an engagement ring so we could support a Russian radio program.” Alex, the broadcaster we had supported, got up, and with a big smile hugged her and said enthusiastically, “You will have many jewels in your crown. There are hundreds of churches all over Russia because of that program!” Isn’t God amazing! I’m looking forward to seeing the jewels in Mur’s crown.
Well, Mur has now received all those jewels in heaven, BUT 65 years ago she didn’t have an engagement ring to show her friends and family. When a student friend of mine heard about this he shared that someone had given him an engagement/wedding ring combo. He gave the engagement ring to his fiancé. Then he said to me, “You’re getting married before I am, so if you want it, you can have the wedding band to use for your wedding.” When I shared this offer with Mur and showed her the seven-diamond wedding ring, she gladly accepted! Years after we were married her mother willed her own engagement ring to her, and not surprisingly, it matched the wedding ring! Isn’t God amazing! He provided those rings to symbolize her love for Him and for me throughout our 63 years together.
