When I got up this morning to read some scripture and pray I thought of reading through the book of Proverbs this month, one chapter a day. Being the third day of the month I started by reading the first three chapters.
For some reason my mind focused on chapter 2, so I reflected on it. Without even planning to use a study method it opened up in a way that fit the focus and amplify study method. The focus is in verse 5, Acquiring the Prize of Life. In a sentence it would be: The ultimate good or desire of a Christian should be to “understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.”
As I reflected further the chapter broke down into three points: the pursuit (verses 1-4), the promises (verses 6-8), and the product, or the kind of person God wants you to be (verses 9-23). If you pursue the things identified in the first four verses you will acquire the prize of understanding the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.
While in this pursuit God will encourage you with great and precious promises. They will keep you confident, protect you while facing the opposition of the enemy and result in victory. As all of this is taking place God will be molding and shaping you into the kind of mature, faithful person He wants you to be.
There will be enticements to distract and ensnare you along the way, but you’ll be able to overcome them as you keep focused on acquiring the prize of life. The challenge and demands will be well worth experiencing in this adventure. Let me encourage you to read this chapter again in preparation for our next visit.
