In our last visit we began a focus and amplify study of Psalm 139.  The focus is in the form of a prayer, verses 23-24, “Search me, O God.”  This focus is also reflected in verse 1, “O Lord, you have searched me.”  In the verses between these two you find God presented as the Omniscient, Omnipresent and Omnipotent One.

God knows everything about me: my actions, thoughts, and even what I’ll say before I say it.  There is nothing I can hide from Him.  In worship, the Psalmist declared, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.”  When the Psalmist prayed for God to search him and test him, he was not asking God to see if there is anything He doesn’t already know.  He was praying that God would reveal to him anything he knows needs to be changed or cleansed.

Sometimes, when we realize God knows everything about us, we want to run away and hide.  But when the Psalmist contemplates that, he realizes, since God is Omnipresent there’s no place he can run to get away from God.  Even if he fled to a place of darkest night, he’s aware that “even the darkness will not be dark to God; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to God.”  Paul, quoting a philosopher of his day said in Acts 17:28, “For in him we live and move and have our being.”

Since you can’t hide anything from God, nor can you hide from him, why not accept that fact and surrender to His control.  You’ll never be disappointed.  In fact, you’ll have a sense of security that will sustain you.
