Update from Lud, October ’26

I finally reached and passed my 90th birthday!!  I’m now officially a NONAGENARIAN.  I had a number of birthday dinners and celebrations before September 16.  I guess folks were afraid I might not reach that milestone.  I appreciated all of it.  It was great seeing many of you at Fellowship’s 50th celebration.  But after getting back to NC, I must say, I don’t feel any different.  Life does go on.

Yes, my life here at Countryside Village does go on.  I’ve continued to do a Vesper Service once a month for three years now.  Next service will be on Sunday, October 11.  Occasionally I lead the weekly Bible Study.  I did a 10-minute video for a production to use in a series of small group studies.  I continue to meet regularly with several men and retired pastors.  And of course, I do what is necessary to keep my radio program on air world-wide and the distribution of my books.

I got an encouraging note from an Update receiver who wrote: “I appreciated reading your article on Jesus Christ’s Legacy Prayer. I keep notes in my OneNote app with starter cues and templates for times when I am at a loss for words or when I need a reminder of points to cover in prayer. I condensed the steps you outlined in your article as follows.

Build Your Legacy Prayer

  1. Live it first.
Grow in your relationship with Jesus. Ask God to make your life an example worth following and thank Him for what He is already doing in and through you.
  2. Invest in others.
Walk alongside your children, mentees, and others God has entrusted to you. Teach, encourage, correct, and let them learn through both success and failure. Celebrate their growth and share family faith stories that reinforce biblical truth.
  3. Release them to God.
Recognize that you will not always be beside them. Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide, protect, and strengthen them. Release them to become who God created them to be and to fulfill His purpose.
  4. Pray beyond your lifetime.
Pray for future generations—for those you influence to faithfully teach and equip others, creating a lasting legacy of faith.
  5. Pray for unity and impact.
Ask God to fill His people with the unity and love shared by Jesus and the Father. Pray that this visible love will draw others to Christ.
  6. End with praise—and keep praying.
Thank God for allowing you to take part in His greater story. Remember: spiritual legacy is not built through effort alone. It is built through prayer.
