Today we’re going to look at the last of the Minor Prophets, Malachi, who gives a future focus for life. It’s been said, “Only one life ‘twill soon be past; only what’s done for Christ will last.” Everything we do should be done with the awareness that we will have to give an accounting of it in the future.
This is true of our worship of God as well as our work for God. It must be of the highest quality. Malachi declares that God hates divorce because it is an affront to God’s perfect plan for marriage and because of the havoc it brings on families and society. He also points out that the quality of our giving is as important as the quality of our living. The two are inseparable. The Lord said that we should bring all that is His into His storehouse. When we do He will richly repay.
You can never prepare too well for the future. God, however, only expects you to keep on doing your best. There is coming a day when faithful service will be rewarded. There is also coming a day when disobedience, lack of faithfulness, poor quality in living, giving and serving, will be brought before the Lord for His evaluation; just judgment will follow.
It’s important for us, first and foremost, to turn our lives over to God. Then as we trust in Him we need to allow Him to work in us and through us, His perfect will, to accomplish His purpose. Then we will be ready to meet Him when He comes.
Keep these things in mind as you read God’s Word. Look for practical principles. Look for things you can focus on and that will help keep your reading meaningful.
