During this week we’ve looked at Psalm 23.  We saw in verse 1, the provision of the Great Shepherd.  In verses 2 and 3 we saw the plan and purpose of the Great Shepherd.  In verse 4 we noted His presence, even if we’re walking through the valley of the shadow of death.  Then in verse 5 we have the preparation of the Great Shepherd, where He prepares us and provides for the circumstances we encounter.

In verse 6 we have a win-win proposition: the promise of God.  Listen to it: “Surely goodness and love (or mercy) will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”  It declares “ALL the days of my life,” not just some of them.  “Goodness and mercy (or love) will follow me all the days of my life.”

Then, in conclusion, we have the assurance of dwelling in the house of the Lord forever.  This progressive provision of the Lord enables Him to work out His plan and accomplish His purpose.  He prepares the way before us and gives us His promise to sustain us.  Truly this Psalm could be entitled, “Life with my Great Shepherd.”

Remember the emphasis on MY Shepherd.  I trust you have been attracted to the Savior, Jesus Christ, the Great Shepherd, the Good Shepherd, and desire to have Him as the One who is a vital part of your life.  Turn to Him, trust in Him.  Ask Him to be your Shepherd so you can join in all He has promised and experience all these things the Psalmist shares with us in Psalm 23.
