In recent visits we have discovered in our study of 2nd Peter 1:3-4 the key to experiencing God’s power and promises in our lives. Power to give us everything we need for life and godliness. Promises that enable us to participate in the dynamic working of the Holy Spirit in our lives. What is the key? It is to worship and praise the Lord Jesus Christ to the degree you already know Him and have experienced Him.
Our problem is we don’t take the time to be still before God and review what we already know about Him. We don’t give the time in study and meditation to grow in our knowledge of Him, who He is and what He has done. When I came to this realization I took time to meditate on what I already knew about my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Here is what I came up with.
He is uncompromising in His holiness and unchanging in His love; unlimited in His power and understanding in His compassion; infinitely above us, yet intimately with us; trustworthy in His promises, nevertheless, true to His perceptions; authoritative in His word and authentic in His walk; august in His majesty, yet amazing in His humility. He is absolute in His sovereignty, yet available in His servant-hood; universal in His appeal, but exclusive in His relationships.
I stopped there, but could have gone on. As I reflected on these statements about my Lord and Savior I became overwhelmed with gratitude and joy, peace and comfort, encouragement and confidence. I took time to worship Him and felt a desire in my heart to please Him. I sensed His power beginning to be released in me.
