This name Jesus is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew name Joshua, which means, “God is my Savior” or “Jehovah is my salvation.” This is why Joseph and Mary were instructed to give the name to the child born to them. He was to save His people from their sins. Freely translated, Jesus means “God is my salvation.” When you put the name and the title together – as Jesus Christ or as Christ Jesus – you have: “My salvation is found in the promised anointed One!”
