As we approach Easter let’s focus on Christ’s great mission for a few days. There are many who have seen the passion of Jesus Christ in the film produced by Mel Gibson. He graphically portrayed the stirring events that led up to the trial, beating and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

There was a battle royal going on between good and evil, between God and Satan. Jesus took the brunt of the pain and suffering. Many were mere spectators. For others it provided a change from the routine. Some were confronted with awesome responsibility. Others chose not to get involved and distanced themselves from Jesus. A few demonstrated devotion and love. In the midst stood Jesus, the promised Messiah.

“God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them” (2 Corinthians 5:19). This was no doubt in answer to Christ’s prayer while hanging on the cross recorded in Luke 23:34, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

He had told His disciples many times why He had come. Luke 19:10 says, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” And Matthew 20:28, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” He is God’s answer for our need as sinners.

During these days when we remember Christ’s passion let me encourage you to thank God for sending His Son, Jesus Christ. Trust in Him for forgiveness and salvation. Ask Him to come into your life and make you a new person. If you do, please let me know.
