I’m excited to share with you, based on Proverbs 2, a description of the person God wants you to become. If you pursue the truth as described in the first four verses of Proverbs 2 and trust in the promises declared in verses 6-8 this is what you can expect God to do in and through you (verses 9-23).

“You will understand what is right and just and fair.” You will be able to discern between what is good, better and best. Wisdom, which is given by God, will enter your heart. With that wisdom you will gain knowledge and that will be pleasant to your soul. It will give you confidence. You will feel good about your grasp of things. You will be able to see danger and won’t be deceived by flattery or false promises. You will be able to exercise discretion, and that will protect you from the destructive strategies of the evil one and his emissaries.

Your ability to understand what is really going on around you will guard you from stumbling and straying from the truth. Wisdom will save you from the allure of the wide path that leads to destruction. Those on the wide path “delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways” (verses 12-15).

It seems like sex always provides a test. It is to be enjoyed within the covenant relationship of marriage. But it often is distorted and compromised and has been the cause of many lives being destroyed. Wisdom will save you from this quagmire of destruction.

So pursue truth, trust in the promises of God and be satisfied with nothing less than knowing God.
