In recent visits I have shared the importance of being ready to share the good news that gives us hope in a troubled world. This is the last command Jesus gave his disciples and us. Read again Matthew 28:19-20 and Acts 1:8.

The Williams translation of Acts 1:8 is, “you must be witnesses.” It is important to realize that the Holy Spirit loves the world of lost sinners as much as God the Father and Son do. When we become Christians the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us, according to John 14:17 and 16:7. He will reach out to others through us with the good news. If He is in control of our hearts and minds we will be witnesses according to Acts 1:8.

Knowing this provides a good reason for submitting our lives to the control of the Holy Spirit and asking Him to use us for Christ’s glory. He will answer our prayer in at least two ways.

First, He will work at making us more Christ-like in our character and conduct. He does this in a number of ways. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 3:18, “We who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” The word “reflect” could be translated “contemplate.”

The picture is this. As we read the Bible record and contemplate what it says about the life of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit takes that truth and begins to transform us more and more into the likeness of Jesus Christ. Then, as we interact with people they’ll begin to see Christ reflected in us and want to know more about what they see.
