As we come to chapter 10 in Mark's gospel let's use a study method I call a chapter study. In this approach read the chapter a few times and identify a title and key verse. Then write out the significant truth of the chapter.

Look for some cross references to help you understand the contents better. If questions arise in your mind, write them down. When you've done these develop an outline. Conclude the study by developing some applications based on the study.

When I did this for Mark 10 I gave the title as, "The Key to a God blessed life." For the key verse I chose, verse 16, "He took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them." When I reviewed the contents of the chapter again I felt the significant truth to remember is this: Jesus represents all that God wants to bless us with, but we hold the key to receiving those blessings or forfeiting them.

The way Jesus responds to the people and circumstances in His life makes it clear that if I want my life to be blessed I need to look to Jesus as the source and substance of that blessing. He modeled a God blessed life. He blessed those who came to Him and trusted in Him. But He rebuked and rejected those who wanted to do it their own way rather than God's way.

His way is summed up in verse 45: "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Paul quotes Jesus as saying, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35).

Apply this principle to every area of your life if you want to experience the God blessed life.
