As we worked our way through 1st Timothy in recent weeks I noticed three times as Paul was sharing important information with Timothy on leadership he spontaneously broke into a song of praise.

As he finished sharing his testimony of God’s saving grace he declared: “Now to the king eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen” (1:17).

Then, after giving administrative guidance regarding elders and deacons he exalted: “Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory” (3:16).

Again, after charging Timothy with what to flee and what to pursue he affirms: “God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone in immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see.  To him be honor and might forever. Amen” (6:15-16).

What prompted this spontaneous outburst of praise sprinkled throughout 1st Timothy?  Why doesn’t this happen more often when I communicate?  I believe Paul got so excited about what he was teaching Timothy it reminded him of when he first discovered what he was sharing, the root and foundation of his own life in Christ.  He wanted Timothy to catch the excitement as he read this letter.

As Christians and leaders of the church we need to be under-girded and saturated with an understanding and appreciation of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
