We are told in Romans 12:9, “Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.”  In our last visit we focused on hating whatever is evil.  Let’s now focus on clinging to whatever is good. 

To do this you first need to determine what is good.  Fortunately God has not left us in the dark as to what is good.  He has given us His Word, the Bible, where what is good is defined and described in many different ways.  Ultimately, God is good.  So, to know good you will need to know God. 

We saw in Romans 12:2, that God’s will is good.  That is why Paul could write in Romans 8:28, “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” 

I believe you would find most people would say that Jesus was good both in character and conduct, and that the content of what He taught was good.  When told to cling to what is good it would include clinging to God, and specifically to Jesus Christ.  It would also include clinging to what Jesus did and taught. 

This is why my focus in this program is to expose people to what is found in God’s Word and encourage them to give expression to what they find the Bible says.  Those who love evil will oppose the good.  If you stand for and cling to what is good the world will oppose you.  They hated and opposed Jesus, who was the embodiment of what is good, so don’t be surprised if they hate and oppose you.  In fact, expect it. 

Always remember: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
