As I promised in our last visit I would like to share how my mother almost gave up on praying for the salvation of me and my brother. As teenagers we drifted from the faith we were brought up in. We made decisions for Christ when we were quite young, but had not grown much in those early years.

Then as teenagers we drifted away from the Lord. We and our parents had serious questions as to whether we had ever been saved. I remember one critical incident that broke my parent’s hearts, especially my Mother’s. She told us later that she was so broken she couldn’t bring herself to pray for us.

When she finally went to God in prayer she said to Him, “If this is what I get for all of those years of praying I quit!” While she wept in silent defeat and resignation she sensed God reminding her of the following truth – “Your responsibility is to pray. My responsibility is to answer prayer. Don’t wory about my responsibility. Be faithful in your responsibility.” That encouraged my mother to keep on praying for us, and in less than a month I and then my brother came back to Christ and have gone on with Him ever since.

But if you pray, “Father, it would sure be great if my sons would come to know You. Draw them to Yourself. Bring the right kind of witness into their lives to convince them,” while in the back of your mind you’re thinking how much easier your life would be if your sons would just straighten up. Don’t be surprised if your prayer is not heard. James 4:3 says that wrong motives will short circuit your prayers.
