In our last visit I shared some thoughts based on 1 Corinthians 13 that I presented at my oldest daughter’s wedding. Let me share what I presented at my youngest son’s wedding based on Galatians 5:22-23.

“It’s been a joy to see how God brought you together and to this place where you are now ready to express your vows to each other. There is a beauty in the idealism of love and the deep desire to be faithful in living out vows expressed at the marriage altar. God knows how tough it is to fulfill your vows consistently over the long haul, and so for the Christian He has provided the Holy Spirit, who dwells within us, to enable us in this journey of love.

“He produces the fruit Paul describes as follows: love – it never fails and it covers a multitude of sins. Joy – it brings brightness and lightness into our lives. It is also our strength. Peace – a state with no hidden agendas or agitation. Patience – a picture of unhurried long-suffering, and steadfastness under provocation. Kindness – a willingness to always give the benefit of a doubt. Goodness – a readiness to do what will benefit and enrich your spouse. Faithfulness – the assurance you can always be counted on. Gentleness – a heart attitude which never forces or demands. Self-control – a heart set on always keeping an eye on the commitment made and the goal toward which you are going together.

“You can always ask the Holy Spirit to provide this fruit in you and through you toward each other, and as you do the fragrance of your vows fulfilled will be a blessing to your marriage and to those around you.”
