Now that we have amplified the first two points I developed based on Churchill’s great graduation speech let’s consider my third point: Never stop short of finishing what you believe God wanted you to accomplish.
You might need to adjust your strategy under God’s direction, but the ultimate goal should not be changed. We pointed out in our last visit that it took prayer and wisdom to adapt without sacrificing the ultimate goal. Be careful not to lose sight of the goal as you work on necessary adaptations.
Jesus said in Luke 9:62, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.” If you look back, the row you are plowing will not be straight. Stay focused if you want to succeed.
In 2 Timothy 4:7 Paul shared that he never gave up the faith as he fought the fight – that’s why he finished the race. Never stop short of finishing the task or reaching the goal.
As He hung on the cross Jesus triumphantly cried out, “It is finished!” In Hebrews 12:3-4 we are told to “fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter (or finisher) of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Jesus finished well. God wants each of us to finish well.
To finish well at the end of our life we need to finish each segment well. Each accomplishment encourages us in the next challenge. So remember, “Never. Never. Never give up!”
