We’ve been studying Psalm 139 using a devotional approach, answering the question, what can we learn about God from this Psalm?  We learned God is omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent.

He is also the creator.  In wisdom He used His omnipotence to create all that is, and most uniquely, human beings.  His creative genius is seen in how He intricately knit us together in our mother’s womb, fearfully and wonderfully made.  With the knowledge we have in the medical and scientific community we still don’t understand fully all the mysteries of how human beings are put together.

The psalmist was right to worship and praise our creator, the Lord God Almighty.  He begins with the fact God has searched me and knows me.  He is interested in the details of my life.  He has a plan for me and wants a relationship with me.

This leads to a second question in our devotional study: What does this Psalm teach about man?  Since God perceives our thoughts, clearly we were created as rational beings.  In this we’re created in God’s image, but our ability to think and comprehend is limited compared to God’s omniscience.

Man communicates.  “Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.”  He shares with others what he’s thinking, about God, his relationship with Him and thoughts in prayer or praise.  More on this in our next visit.
