In our study of Malachi 1 we discovered what we should appreciate in our relationship with God, what we should avoid, as well as what we should appropriate.  Now let’s consider what we should anticipate.

Malachi, tells us why God hated Esau, explaining his arrogant response to God.  “Edom may say, ‘Though we have been crushed, we will rebuild the ruins.’”  This is how the Lord Almighty responded: “They may build, but I will demolish.  They will be called the Wicked Land, a people always under the wrath of the Lord.  You will see it with your own eyes and say, ‘Great is the Lord – even beyond the borders of Israel.’”  Beware of thumbing your nose at God!

His chosen people responded to God’s love with indifference, insolence and irreverence.  God declared: “I will accept no offering from your hands,” and promised, “My name will be great among the nations, from the rising to the setting of the sun.  In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to my name, because my name will be great among the nations.”

God has a plan for Israel.  He loves them in spite of the way they live.  But God’s plan is bigger than Israel.  He has His faithful remnant scattered throughout the world.  Why not become one of them: appreciate God, avoid what He abhors and appropriate what pleases Him.  Then, anticipate His blessing.
