In our last visit we began to amplify the second point in our outline under the title: Developing Christ-like Communication Skills. We discovered, flawed character inevitably corrupts communication. It leads to lying lips which the Lord detests (Proverbs 12:22).
Why? Because it hurts everyone: the one lying, the one being lied about or being lied to. Proverbs 19:5 and 9 warns that “a false witness will not go unpunished,” and, “he who pours out lies will perish.” Proverbs 21:28 spells out a twofold consequence, “A false witness will perish, and whoever listens to him will be destroyed forever.”
Proverbs 15:4 declares, “a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.” Deceit and lying are destructive partners. Though it might seem you get away with it, a positive outcome lasts only a moment according to Proverbs 12:19. Yes, “A fortune made by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a deadly snare” (Proverbs 21:6). Solomon, who was unbelievably wealthy declared in Proverbs 19:22, “better to be poor than a liar.” The malignant web that lying creates causes the liar to be deceived as well. Proverbs 17:4 says, “a liar pays attention to a malicious tongue.”
Solomon affirmed that lying lips are unsuited to a ruler. Lying is deceitful. It’s a destructive malignancy to be avoided if we want to develop Christ-like communication skills.
