There’s so much in the book of Hebrews I’d like to touch on. Our time, however, doesn’t allow for all of it. For example, chapter 7 speaks of the superiority of Jesus over the Levitical priesthood. While explaining how Jesus is superior this powerful statement is found in verse 25: “Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.”
The word ‘completely’ can be translated ‘to the uttermost’ or ‘forever.’ Christ’s ability is limitless. The point is, no matter how hopeless a life might seem to be, He is able to save it completely. Jesus Christ can save you, no matter what you’ve done, no matter how you feel. All you need to do is come to God through faith in Jesus.
The writer further explains: Jesus is able to do this “because he always lives to intercede for you.” He is a living, caring, competent Savior. Listen to verses 26-27: “Such a high priest meets our need – one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he doesn‘t need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.”
His one sacrifice was adequate to take away your sins, no matter what they are, if you just come to God through Jesus. Just pray, “God I come to you for salvation through Jesus Christ.”
