We’re almost through the easy part of reading through the Bible in two years.  Much of what we’ve read has been historical in nature.  It’s a story being told.  People who are participants in that story have often entered into experiences that are intriguing and interesting.  Then we’ve also looked at poetry, describing the beauty of a relationship with God and with one another, as well as some of the emotional trauma some of us feel from time to time.

Now we get into one of the books of the prophets, the book of Isaiah.  The prophetical books tell it like it is.  The message God presented through the men he chose as prophets has been neglected far too long.  This is tragic, for God’s prophetic message has a double significance for us.  First, what the prophets said to their generation is relevant to us because our generation has many characteristics that were prevalent back then.  Second, what they had to say about the last days is significant, because we are now living in those last days.

We must turn back to the prophets and have them arouse us out of our stupor.  Listen to these holy men of old declare God’s justice as well as His love.  They proclaimed what God had burned into their hearts even if thrown into prison or denounced for it.  Our day needs such men who are faithful in telling it like it is.

And unless we begin looking into what they said and listening to them, it will be too late.  Prepare your heart for a journey that will challenge you, stir you and lead you into holy living.
