Even though Solomon was a great man with immense gifts, he learned in life there is significant benefit that comes through partnering.  In Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 he shares insights on this dynamic.  The benefits are probably what Jesus had in mind when He sent the disciples out two by two.

As I thought about what Solomon said in these verses I came up with 4 points, one for each verse.  Verse 9 would be Synergism.  When two work together they get more done than the sum of both working independently.  There’s obviously a need for help when facing a task impossible for one to accomplish.  And such help energizes the other to keep going and finish the project.

Verse 10 would be Safety.  If one falls and hurts himself it’s helpful to have someone to assist in getting the care they need.

Verse 11 could be Steam.  I know that’s stretching it a little, but steam comes from heat, and when two lie down together they’ll keep warm.  An outline is designed to help you remember something.  Steam will help me remember the benefit of two lying together on a cold night to keep warm.

Verse 12 would be Strength.  When attacked, it’s always good to have someone at your side to help you defend yourself.

Solomon concludes this vivid description by pointing out the benefits of partnering by adding, “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”  Two are better than one, and three are better than two.  For the Christian this would especially be true with the third person being the Holy Spirit, working in both and binding them together.
