As we’ve seen in our last two visits, Christmas celebrations are shallow if they don’t include the grand story of the Bible.  It’s ironic how blind many are.  Listen to what some said as they stood before Christ as He hung on the cross.  “He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One” (Luke 23:35).

Jesus didn’t come to save His own life.  He could have if He wanted to.  He came to save others.  That was his great gift.  It was also His Father’s great gift.  Isaiah made it clear; Jesus came to save us, the rebellious and mockers (Isaiah 53).

In fact, one of the two crucified with him mocked at first, then realized they deserved to be punished for their evil deeds, but Jesus had done nothing wrong.  He said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” (Luke 23:42).  Guess what Jesus’ answer was?  “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”  Though in anguish, Jesus continued to have a heart for others.  In Matthew 20:28 Jesus said, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

If you’ve never taken the step of faith in which you asked Jesus to remember you and give you eternal life, why not follow the example of the one crucified with Jesus Christ.  Pray to Him to save you and establish a personal relationship with Him.

If you’ve taken that step, then follow Christ’s example of not looking for others to serve you, but rather, look for ways to serve others.  Your life will be richer and fuller as you do this.
