None of us like valley experiences. This is especially true when we or others close to us     experience going through the valley of the shadow of death.  That’s not what we would choose.  It’s scary.

The Psalmist says in Psalms 23:4, “Even though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.”  Why?  Because of the presence of the Good Shepherd: “For you are with me.”  It’s true, He might use a rod and a staff. Those hurt sometimes.  They might make you feel awkward, but the Psalmist says they comfort us, because they keep us in line as we go through the valley, even the valley of the shadow of death. They help us experience His presence and His power to keep us.

Verse 5 promises that God prepares a table for us in the presence of our enemies.  It’s been said, “Bloom where you’re planted.”  According to Psalm 23:5, you could say, “Eat where God has prepared the table.”  Listen: “You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies.”

Sometimes God allows us to experience what it’s like to be surrounded by enemies, opposition, difficulties.  But if He prepares a table there, sit down and enjoy the banquet.  Then, trust God to anoint you in that setting so your cup overflows.  Count on the overflow to meet the needs of those around you.

God knows what He’s doing.  He provides for you and prepares you to live out your life in a way that pleases Him and enriches others day by day.  Take those truths to heart and allow Him to work out His purpose in your life.
