Psalm 11 is a wonderful word picture of how to live victoriously in a hostile world.  This focus is amplified under three points:  my ally, my enemy and my victory.   Let’s amplify those three points even further.

Consider what is said about my ally - the Lord.  He is a refuge in whom I find safety and security.  He is in his holy temple, on his heavenly throne.  From there He observes humanity and His eyes examine them.  He, in a special way, examines the righteous, but he hates those who love violence.  He will judge the wicked.

Now let’s amplify what is said about my enemy.  He encourages me to trust in my own strength - “flee like a bird to your own mountain.”  He has his bow and arrow at the ready, to shoot at me whenever I stray from God’s protective care.  He tries to destroy the foundations of a righteous lifestyle.

In the midst of this struggle between good and evil I’m encouraged to rely on God, not self.  I should allow Him to examine me to expose anything that stands in the way of living righteously.  I should “seek His face.”  This is the Psalmist’s answer to his own question: “When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?”  Flee by faith from self-reliance to the safety and security of the Lord.  Allow Him to examine and transform you into one who lives righteously.

Another translation of this verse is, “What is the Righteous One doing?”  Find out what He’s doing and adjust your life to line up with His objectives and you’ll experience victory in a hostile world.
