Psalm 1 is a Psalm I’ve memorized and encouraged my children to memorize.  I would challenge you to memorize it.  It’s a Psalm that describes a life truly blessed by God.  It begins: “Blessed is the man….”

But as you read through it, one word is repeated more than any other, the word “wicked.”  You find it in verses 1, 4, 5 and 6.  Basically this Psalm contrasts a righteous man from one who is wicked.

To study this contrast write all of the things regarding the man who is righteous and blessed of God on one side of a sheet of paper and on the other side of the page put what is said about the wicked man.  If you want to be blessed note the things the righteous man avoids, what he appropriates, and finally what he anticipates.

“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.”  This is what he avoids.  “But his delight is in the law of the Lord and on this law he meditates day and night.”  This is what he appropriates.  Anyone who does this will be like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.  Whatever he does prospers.  He’ll be a part of the assembly of the righteous.  The Lord watches over the way of the righteous.  He will always have His eye on him, looking for ways to bless and prosper him and to use him for His honor and glory.  This is what the righteous man can anticipate.

Does this outline describe your life?  Are you a person whom God delights to bless?
