As we’ve begun to study what Paul said in 2 Thessalonians 1 about having a worldview that gives confidence in the face of trials and hope for the future.  We found that God established His church.  If you’ve believed the good news about Jesus Christ you are in His church.  There’s no safer place on earth than in His church.  If you’re persecuted for your faith and feel abandoned, rest assured, God who called you into His church will sustain and keep you.  You’ll never be abandoned.

What He started in your life He will bring to completion.  How do I know this?  God is just.  Justice in our world is at best flawed, at worst it is tyrannical.  But God writes the last chapter and His justice will prevail.  His judgment on anything is right.  You need not worry about some information, unknown to you, being unknown to God.  Verse 6 says, “He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well.” If you or someone you love is treated unjustly, God will put things right in the end.  This brings comfort not only to the one under duress.  It also brings comfort to the one observing injustice.

This will all happen at the right time, according to God’s timetable.  He will not be late.  He also will not be early.  This will happen “on the day Jesus Christ comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who believed” (verse 10).

A worldview that sees these truths clearly will give you confidence in the face of trials and hope for the future.
