In recent visits we’ve seen, based on 1st Peter 3:15-16, the importance of being ready to share the reason that gives us hope in a troubled world. The last command Jesus gave his disciples and us is recorded in Matthew 28:19-20 and Acts 1:8. Williams translates Acts 1:8, “you must be witnesses.” It’s important to realize that the Holy Spirit loves the world of lost sinners as much as God the Father and Son do. When we become Christians the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us according to John 14:17 and 16:7. He will reach out to others through us with the good news. If He’s in control of our hearts and minds we will be witnesses according to Acts 1:8. Knowing this provides a good reason for submitting our lives to the control of the Holy Spirit, asking Him to use us for Christ’s glory. When we do He will answer our prayer by making us more Christ-like in our character and conduct. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 3:18, “We who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” The word “reflect” could be translated “contemplate.” As we read the Bible and contemplate what it says about the life of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit takes the truth and begins to transform us more and more into the likeness of Jesus Christ. Then, as we interact with people they’ll begin to see Christ reflected in us and want to know more about what they see. That’s the opportunity for sharing with them.
