Let’s review what we’ve studied in 1st Peter 1. Peter starts by giving a cogent capsule of God’s initiative regarding our salvation: past, present and future. That’s the focus of chapter 1. He amplifies this by showing how God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are involved in bringing us into experiencing His salvation. He amplifies this further, sharing how we participate in this whole process so that our lives manifest the grace and love of God. We need to prepare our minds for action. We’re encouraged, in the light of all God has done for us, and continues to do in us, to give our all in living for God. But we need to keep this in balance. That’s why Peter says, “be self-controlled.” We need to maintain balance so we don’t burn out. Remember, you know the end game – God controls that. Praise the Lord. He writes the last chapter. So be obedient. Guard against drift and compromise in your life. Pursue holiness, so that your life points to God’s holiness. Never forget, God doesn’t have favorites. You’re responsible to God for what He assigns to you. Though living in this world as strangers, we are on assignment, on a mission. Knowing that God paid a big price when He determined before the creation of the world to send His Son to be our savior, we are responsible to share this message, recorded in His word, the Bible, which stands unchanged forever. Let’s love one another deeply, and together make God’s salvation known to friends and neighbors until the day Jesus returns.
