Christmas is the time when we think of the birth of Jesus. This is commemorating an event that took place almost 2000 years ago. But this event was in the mind of God long before that. In fact, it’s an event predicted in God’s judgment pronounced in Genesis 3:15, when God said to Satan who had appeared in the form of a serpent, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” Thousands of years later the apostle Paul said in Galatians 4:4, “When the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.” Between these two historical points of reference, Satan dogged the plan of God and the people involved in the plan of God, trying to destroy the possibility of the promised offspring crushing his head, but all of his strikes at the heal of the woman’s offspring were in vain. Time and again down through history it appeared the chosen line of people would be wiped out, but God always intervened at just the right time, with just the right person or turn of events to preserve His promise and fulfill His plan. God can be trusted to do what He sets out to do, whether it’s in providing a Savior, as He did in sending Jesus, or in meeting your need today, whatever that need might be. If you’ve trusted in Jesus as your Savior, He will never abandon you. He has given you His Spirit to comfort and counsel you. What a wonderful gift He has given, and it’s available to all who trust in Him.
