In recent visits we’ve considered a number of applications we can make to our lives and share with others: Could my life be described as “a life well lived”? If I am a believer I was “born to reproduce!” Am I fulfilling my calling? Am I committed to “finishing well” whatever task I sense God has given me? For us to leave the kind of legacy God wants us to leave to those we love and encounter in life we will need to realize the following. My life might be the only Bible some will read. And if they do read the Bible, will they see the principles of the Bible lived out in my life? Do I have a strategy to guide me in living my life for God’s glory and for completing the tasks God has given me? Paul made it clear that the Holy Spirit plays a significant role in making this happen. He spoke of being “compelled by the Spirit” to go somewhere, and being warned by the Holy Spirit about dangers he would face. He also talked to the elders from Ephesus about the Holy Spirit making them overseers of their church. This would imply they were accountable to the Holy Spirit. I believe we need to recognize our dependence on the Holy Spirit to guide and empower us in our service for God. Paul also told them that he was committing them to God and to the word of his grace, which can build them up. We need to expose ourselves to God’s word and hide it in our minds and hearts. God uses it to build us up and help us to encourage others to grow. These are essential elements to have in our lives if we want to leave a positive legacy to those we love and encounter in life.
