We live in a day when Satan is out to destroy the family and will relentlessly fight to that end. That’s why Christian parents must model Christ-likeness and pray diligently that God will cause their children to follow in their steps. For this to happen we must be committed to Jesus Christ by accepting Him into our lives by faith as Savior and Lord. Then we must be Biblically driven. The Bible must become our map and mandate for life. When reading the four gospels you will notice again and again that what Jesus said and did was determined by what was predicted of Him in the Old Testament. He lived His life to fulfill what was stated of Him in the Bible. We should likewise live in such a way that what the Bible says about being a Christian will be fulfilled in us. Listen to how James puts it in his epistle, 1:22-25: “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it – he will be blessed in what he does.” To be Biblically driven as a parent means you not only learn what the Bible says, you remember it and practice it throughout the day. Does this describe you as a person and as a parent? Are your children following your example?
