Praise God for revealing truth about Himself through natural revelation, as stated in Psalm 19:1-6). Praise Him even more for revealing truth about Himself and His will for us through special revelation as stated in Psalm 19:7-11. Through these two means of revelation we can get to know God better and learn how much we need His forgiveness and protection. We find in Psalm 19:12-14 that some of our faults are hidden to us, but exposed by the penetrating light of God’s Word. Some of our sins are willfully committed. Only God’s grace keeps us from committing or continuing them. If God doesn’t protect us from this slippery slope of willful sins we will find ourselves in bondage to them. God alone forgives and protects us from great transgression and makes us blameless. We, like the Psalmist, need to spend time enjoying and reflecting on what we can learn from natural revelation. We also need to spend time reading, meditating on, and hiding God’s Word in our minds and hearts. As we do, our prayers will be much like the Psalmist’s: “Forgive my hidden faults. Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” I get the sense, natural revelation helps me understand God to be my Rock, a sure foundation. Special revelation, the Bible, helps me understand God as my Redeemer, the giver of life. Psalm 19 captures the life God wants each of us to have and share with others.
