In our last visit we focused on the importance of memorizing the Word of God. There is a basic secret to memorization. Always learn the reference where the verse is found along with memorizing the verse. After you have gone over a verse enough times so you can say it without looking at the Bible, review it. After reviewing it, review it again. This is the secret of memorizing. There is no short cut. As I read Mark 12:13-17 I found I could remember the whole story by memorizing part of verse 17: “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” The Pharisees and Herodians tried tripping up Jesus. They started by referring to Him as a man of integrity who isn’t swayed by men but always teaches the truth no matter who’s in the audience. Then they ask Him about paying taxes to Caesar. Jesus knew their question was prompted by hypocrisy. Asking for a Denarius Jesus asked, “Whose portrait is on it, and whose inscription?” When they said, “Caesar’s,” He said, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” The coin was Caesar’s, so give it to him. But remember, you were created in God’s image, so give yourself to Him. That’s not what they expected or wanted to hear. They tried trapping Jesus and were trapped by Jesus themselves. Memorize this verse and review it often as a reminder that you belong to God. He created you with the imprint of His image and for His Purpose. Give yourself to Him and ask Him to fulfill His purpose in and through you.>
