In our study of Ephesians 5:1-21 we have seen that to experience a quality life in marriage and family you need to have the foundation of a quality life in the family of faith. The cornerstones of such a life are love and commitment. Building blocks need to be selected carefully to avoid those that would destroy and acquire those that would stabilize and enrich.
Beginning at verse 15 Paul emphasizes the importance of carefully following the blueprint in building your life. Be wise in making the most of every opportunity. Satan is opposed to our building a life that pleases God. So be careful. Be wise. Always try to understand what the Lord’s will is, that is, follow the blueprint!
But having said this, note Paul doesn’t stop until he has made it clear that any building able to stand the test of time will need to be built by the divine enabling of the Holy Spirit. We must be under His control. Then, and only then, will we be able to build the kind of life that prepares us for experiencing a quality life in marriage. We will build with a song in our hearts, praising and thanking God.
When believers are developing in this way it will be natural to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Following these clear details in the blueprint that God has given us is what can make a floundering marriage get back on track.
