To experience a quality life in marriage and family you need the foundation of a quality life in the family of faith. This truth is developed in Ephesians 5:1-21.
The cornerstones of this foundation are love (verse 2) and commitment (verse 21). Then you need to select the right building blocks, characterized by purity. Paul explains this by pointing out things you should avoid and things you should acquire.
Avoid behavior involving sexual immorality or any kind of impurity. This has derailed more marriages than probably anything else. Also, avoid greed, which is concerned about getting rather than giving, especially in a relationship. These are inconsistent with the moral purity which should characterize God’s people. And watch your tongue. Obscenities, foolish talk or coarse joking are out of harmony with a heart that is grateful for the forgiveness God has given in salvation.
The things God wants us to acquire and cultivate are goodness, righteousness, and truth. Our primary concern should be to learn what pleases God, and then do it. Choose your friends carefully. Do not be partners with those who do the things you should avoid. Choose friends among those who will strengthen your walk in the light. This will keep you from stumbling and will expose and hopefully persuade those who walk in darkness to seek the light.
These are the building blocks needed if you want to be prepared for a quality life in marriage, family and church. Also it will impact the world around you.
