In recent visits we’ve studied Solomon’s prayer in 2 Chronicles 6. Then Daniel’s prayers in Daniel 9 and 10.

It’s interesting to note when Solomon finished praying, “fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple” (2 Chronicles 7:1). God’s answer was instantaneous.

When Daniel prayed in Daniel 9 Gabriel came with God’s answer while he was still praying. Daniel’s prayer in chapter 10 was heard by God at the time he started praying, but the answer didn’t get to Daniel for three weeks. Why? The messenger, who was likely Gabriel, was confronted and resisted from delivering God’s answer by the prince of the Persian kingdom. This spiritual battle lasted three weeks until Michael was dispatched to help Gabriel.

It’s clear, God answered all three prayers: Solomon’s, immediately after the prayer was finished, Daniel’s first prayer, before the prayer was finished, and his second, at the time his extended prayer was initiated.

There are times when it seems there is no opposition to our prayers being answered. At other times there are delays because of intense spiritual warfare. There was nothing wrong with the three prayers we’ve considered. There also was no indication the answer was affected by any flaw in the life of the one praying.

We can be sure, when we pray, the enemy, Satan, knows he’s in a battle. His tactics vary, but his intent never does. We, however, need to remember, “Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4).
