Have you ever asked yourself, “If Satan has already been defeated, then how is he able to cause so much chaos and despair?”
A friend, Pete Briscoe, illustrates it with a story: “A man in South America came home and discovered a massive Anaconda had crawled its way inside. The only way to remove the snake was to shoot it, but once he did, a shocking thing happened. It began throwing its massive body around in rage, using the last bit of its energy and life to destroy everything in its path. Satan is like that snake. He only has a short time before Jesus returns, but in it, he is trying to do as much damage as possible.”
John shares in Revelation 12:9-12 how to overcome this threat. “The great dragon…that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray…Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night has been hurled down. They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death…He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.”
Colossians 2:15 declares this of Christ: “having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” Christ’s blood drenched death on the cross defeated Satan. Claim it. Testify to it. Live victoriously, in obedience, for God’s glory.
