As we continue reading through the Bible by the end of this year we come to 1 Timothy today. Read it a couple of chapters each day.

When I read 1 Timothy I thought an appropriate title for the book would be: A Servant’s Lesson-Book.

If you are a Christian and you want to serve the Lord, but you’re not sure how to go about it, then read 1 Timothy carefully. Paul, who wrote the book, was an experienced servant of the Lord. He knew the answers to the kind of questions young Timothy had as he went out to serve the Lord. Many of your questions will be answered too. And very likely some issues you did not consider important will also be explained with proper emphasis.

Paul makes it clear that to serve others you must maintain a growing relationship with the Lord yourself. You can’t lead others beyond where you are. Be an example; then exhort and encourage others in the ways of God. Don’t let anything discourage you from continuing in your work.

Kaj Munk, a fiery Danish minister, refused to get deviated from his calling to preach the gospel. He challenges others: “Let us give up being great in little things and be great in the great.”

Paul summarizes his challenge to young Timothy with these words in 1 Timothy 4:15-16, reading from the Living Bible, “Put these abilities to work; throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone may notice your improvement and progress. Keep a close watch on all you do and think. Stay true to what is right and God will bless you and use you to help others.”
