Sometimes as you read the Bible a verse will jump out and grab you. It’s probably relevant to your particular situation. While reading through Isaiah I came across such a verse. I call it “an impact statement.”

Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.” I like the King James translation better: “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

I’ll let you in on a secret. Every time I read or hear this verse I remember my wife held on to it as we were seriously dating. She had concerns and wanted to be ready if I “popped the question,” so she wrote down 20 reasons why she would say “No!”

But in spite of those concerns in her heart, she also loved me. She wanted what God wanted for her in a life’s partner. So she prayed this verse over and over again to God, trusting that He would give her peace about her answer. When I did “pop the question” she forgot the list of 20 reasons and said, “Yes!”

I didn’t know at the time that she had this list in her purse. Later she shared this little secret with me. But she also shared that God gave her the perfect peace He promised as she kept her mind focused steadfastly on Him and trusted in Him.

I’m so glad she answered “Yes.” I’m so glad God gave her peace. And now 53 years later, with four married children and twelve grandchildren and one great grandson, we have truly been blessed.

Now you know the rest of the story, and why this verse is an impact statement to me.
