In our last visit we reviewed what Isaiah said in chapter 64 of his prophecy, and then what he meant. Now we need to ask ourselves, what difference should what we learned make in our lives?

Isaiah passionately cried out to God, “Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble before you! As when fire sets twigs ablaze and causes water to boil, come down to make your name known to your enemies and cause the nations to quake before you! For when you did awesome thing that we did not expect, you came down, and the mountains trembled before you.”

Isaiah was desperate. Conditions were deteriorating. In despair he remembers how in the past God at times unexpectedly did some awesome things. Those acts were like throwing a lighted match on desert dried twigs that burst into a raging forest fire that sweeps across the land. They were like the heat of a fire that causes water to boil. Even enemies of God had to recognize His awesome power and tremble before Him. What Isaiah was praying was, “God, come down again. Visit us in power as you did in the past.”

Though the conditions around him weren’t changing his faith affirmed in verse 4, “Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God beside you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.” He was appealing to the One and Only God. And he was expecting God to act if he just kept waiting on Him.

As he waited he kept on passionately praying, “Do it again, Oh God, do it again!” Is that your heart cry today?
